Welcome to Georgia's Journey

Georgia Lily Lucas was born at home on October 6th, 2008 4:15am, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) on April 1, 2009.

On April 3rd Georgia was taken home, to be near her sisters and the rest of her family and friends. Nearly three weeks later, on April 21, 2009, she died peacefully -- in the loving arms of her mother and in the same room in which she was born.

Farewell my Angel

Georgia took her last breath sometime around 11:30 this morning. I can't be sure because I couldn't see the clock. In the end it was her and I. It was oh so hearbreaking yet oh so peaceful. She was in my arms and we had Bob Marley Lullabyes playing softly in the background. Daddy and sisters arrived within minutes to say their goodbyes as well as the amazing duo Dr. Mike and Simone.

We will keep you updated with further information.

Once again I thank you all for your prayers, love and support.

Kristen

Thank you for sharing her with us for the short time she was on this earth. Even though I never knew her she certainly impacted my life.
My friend just lost her little boy of only 7days old on Sunday. His name was Cole. I hope that him and Georgia are playing in heaven.

  3. My heart is breaking for you guys. The tears are rolling down my face as I write this. You are all in our thoughts. Thank you for sharing your story. It has taught me, as well as many others I'm sure, to not take for granted the precious time we have with our little ones. I know that I have hugged and kissed and cuddled my boys more often in the last few weeks because of Georgia. She was a beautiful, special little girl who touched the lives of so many people who didn't even know her. I'm sure she felt so loved, comforted, happy and peaceful in your arms this morning.

  5. Precious Georgia. Thank you for brightening the world and making it a better place, teaching us all to do the same. You brought so many people together in love and are woven deeply into our hearts forever.
Kristen and Mike, there are no words we can say to you, such incredible, loving parents going through such a loss. I wish all of us sharing in your pain could alleviate some of yours, but sadly I know it doesn't work that way. Know we are here and will continue to pray for strength as you start this part of the journey.

  29. Thank you for sharing the last two weeks in the life of your dear Georgia. I don't know you or your family but like so many others I have felt compelled to check each morning to see how you and your family were doing. In her short life she accomplished more than you will ever know as she educated so many people about SMA and how it effects so many families. There is another way that your story has touched lives. In the past two weeks I have tried to treasure all of the moments with my children, even sometimes when it was easier to get mad. I've made a point of making sure that there are "Georgia Moments" in each day where we laugh together. Thank you for the reminder that we don't know the number of our days and that each day together is a present and not a guarantee. I know that words don't help as you go through this most difficult time, but I do hope you know that many, many people will continue to pray for you and your family.

    "WHEN GOD CALLS LITTLE CHILDREN"

    When God calls little children
    to dwell with him above,
    We mortals sometime question
    the wisdom of his love
    For no heartache compares with
the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world,
    seem wonderful and mild
    Perhaps God tires of calling
    the aged to his fold,
    So He picks a rosebud,
    before he can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so he takes but a few
To make the land of Heaven
    more beautiful to view.
    Believing this is difficult still
    somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye."
So when a little child departs
    we who are left behind
    Must realize God loves children,
    Angels are hard to find.

“I’ll lend you for a little while
a child of Mine”, God said,
For you to love the while they live,
And mourn for when they’re dead.
It may be one or two years or
    Forty two or three.
But will you, till I call them back,
Take care of them for Me?
They will bring their charms to gladden you.
And shall their stay be brief,
    You’ll have their lovely memories
    To solace for your grief.
“I cannot promise they will stay,
    since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want these children to learn.
I’ve looked the world wide over
In My search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life’s
    Lanes, I have chosen you.
Now will you give them all your love,
    Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call
    To take them back again?"
I fancied that I heard them say
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done”
for all the joy Thy children shall bring.
The risk of grief we’ll run.
    We’ll shelter them with tenderness,
We’ll love them while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known
    Forever grateful stay.
But shall the angels call for them
    Much sooner than we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
    And try to understand……..

    Mike and Kristen,
Your love and strength throughout this painful, yet loving journey is an inspiration to everyone.

We are all going to miss our beautiful wee 'Georgia', but now that she has earned her angel wings, I'm sure that she will always be near us to whisper comfort whenever we need it most. 71. Kristen and family,

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of your little girl. Even as I have been through this terrible loss with my own son to SMA, I frequently feel inadequate when it comes to words in this situation. I want nothing more than to tell you your little girl is coming back to your arms - but I am unable to do that for you. I wish more than anything I could heal your hurt, but only time (and lots of it) can do that.

You will remain in my thoughts.

If you are comfortable sending me your address, there is something I would like you to have. info@marshallpotter.com

Wishing you much peace in coming days.

  80. Hi,

You don't know me, but my parents, Kate and John are friends of yours. My mom has told me about Georgia, since they first found out the news, and our whole family has been following along via this blog.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I could never even come close to imagining what you are going through as a family. I have a 10 year old little boy, and I don't know if I could survive losing him. You are very strong people, and from what I have heard from my parents, You are two of the nicest people they have ever known.

I wish you only the best, and that in time you will heal from this great loss. Your two other girls are precious beauties!! Please give them a hug for me.

  84. TO MY MOMMY AND DADDY

Daddy, please don't look so sad,
    Mama please don't cry~
"Cause I am in the arms of Jesus
    and He sings me lullabies."

Please, try not to question God,
    Don't think He is unkind
Don't think He sent me to you,
and then He changed his mind.

You see, I am a special child,
    and I'm needed up above
I'm the special gift you gave Him,
    the product of your love.

I'll always be there with you
and watch the sky at night,
Find the brightest star that's gleaming,
    That's my halo's brilliant light.

You'll see me in the morning frost,
    that mists your window pane.
That's me in the summer showers,
I'll be dancing in the rain.

When you feel a little breeze,
from a gentle wind that blows
    That's me, I'll be there,
planting a kiss on your nose.

When you see a child playing,
and your heart feels a little tug,
    That's me, I'll be there,
    giving your heart a hug.

So Daddy, please don't look so sad,
    Mama don't your cry.
I'm in the arms of Jesus
    and He sings me lullabies.
