Welcome to Georgia's Journey

Georgia Lily Lucas was born at home on October 6th, 2008 4:15am, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) on April 1, 2009.

On April 3rd Georgia was taken home, to be near her sisters and the rest of her family and friends. Nearly three weeks later, on April 21, 2009, she died peacefully -- in the loving arms of her mother and in the same room in which she was born.

Service

It's been a long day and I thought that I would have nothing much to say, yet here I am holed up in the office. Thank you to all of you that attended the service today. Thank you to all of you that couldn't make it but kept us in your thoughts and prayers and to all of you near and far that chose to wear pink. Thank you to some of you that have sent private email messages even since the service. These continue to be my lifelines.

I plan on posting the eulogy and the video when I get a chance. There were also quite a few pictures taken and we will try to post some of those as well. We are considering taking off for a few days so if you don't hear from us you know that we have escaped.

I will continue to blog (less often of course) but our journey has only just begun and we are hoping that many of you will join us. I have some thoughts about this that eventually I will share.

The last of the crowd is starting to leave now so I need to go say good bye.

Love to you all,

Kristen

PS To my amazing duo if you are reading this I am thanking you again from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for helping me to walk back in!

  1. It was a beautiful service, Kristen and Mike. I can only imagine how hard it was for you both. I'm so glad that you will eventually post the eulogy, because I have spoken with several people today that weren't at the service but would like to read it. Thank you again for sharing Georgia's journey with us. Take care.

  2. Kristen and Mike,
I hope today, although the toughest of days, allowed you to see how much you all are loved and how many lives your story, and Georgia's Journey, has touched. I hope you found peace throughout the day, knowing how loved your precious baby was, and how you truly were the perfect family for Georgia. You are very right, your journey is just beginning and there will be days you don't know if you can face it but know you have so much love and support out there cheering you on and holding you up. I know there are so many people that are willing to help, to raise awareness for SMA, what children's hospitals need etc-we are up for the job!! Georgia will never be forgotten, neither will your love, strength and grace-it is, and I know will continue to be, inspiring.
We love you and will hold you up in our thoughts and prayers, I know that there are great things to come, you have and will continue to make people, especially your Sweet Angel, so very proud.
    Love and Hugs,
    Emma

  4. Hello again,

I left a note to you a few days ago expressing my sorrow at your loss and reminding me of a parents love of a child.

I would liked to have been there, but I do not know you and I am sure the place was filled with friends that you know.

But know that I was there in spirit and again thank you for allowing us, the public to share in your burden.

Before I saw this, I did not know about the sickness that took Georgia, nor about the very compassionate photographers that take very touching pictures.

I wish your entire family well. It will be hard, but it sounds like you have support from your friends.

    Take care.

I prayed for you and your girls so often today. That God would draw you near to Him and that He would give you comfort.

I found a wonderful organization called
Tiny Handprints. Though founded as a SIDS support organization, they are wanting to expand to cover other types of infant death and their materials are definitely still relevant to your loss. I requested that they send you their Survival Kit and they were more than willing to send it here to Canada. I hope that is ok with you, and that you will find comfort and support from the items they send you.

    With love and prayers

  6. Kristen and Mike,

Our thoughts were with you i can honestly say all day.

you can go to bed tonight knowing to-morrow will be the next phase of your journey.

You gave georgia so much love the few short months she was with you that she will now want mommy and daddy to rest and start on the road to recovery. This is not an easy road, it will have it`s valleys and its mountains, the days you won`t want to get out of bed., but the memory of your sweet Georgia will give you the strength to carry on. Calla and Maya will also keep you going thank the lord for them.

I want you to know that we will continue giving the petition site to everyone we can. You will all be in our prayers daily. thankyou for sharing such personal photo`s with us. i had never heard of this kind of photograpy before, i think it`s wonderful. If any of you photographers are reading this thankyou for your compassion and generosity.

You will continue to be in our prayers and we will look in on your blog to keep up with the news and to help in anyway we can.

    take care

  7. I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Georgia. You show great strength by being so open and sharing your story with everyone. I had never heard about SMA before Georgia. I have signed the petition (Jo sent it to me) and passed it on to some friends and family. I would have come to the service if I was still living in Winnipeg.

I will keep up to date and support you on your journey. I will help in spreading awareness about SMA.

    My thoughts are with you.

The service yesterday was moving and touching and beautiful and emotional. Your poise and graciousness was absolutely admirable. Georgia will be loved and remembered always - her life has touched us deeply and the lessons your loving family has taught us will live on forever. Thank you for sharing your precious angel with us.
