Welcome to Georgia's Journey

Georgia Lily Lucas was born at home on October 6th, 2008 4:15am, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) on April 1, 2009.

On April 3rd Georgia was taken home, to be near her sisters and the rest of her family and friends. Nearly three weeks later, on April 21, 2009, she died peacefully -- in the loving arms of her mother and in the same room in which she was born.

Laughter!!!

Yesterday afternoon and then again today we heard the most joyous sound, Georgia laughing. It was a quiet kind of congested laugh but she definitely was laughing. I had resigned myself to never hearing that sound again. It had been 20 days.
Georgia seems to have settled right back in at home. She seems way more content and actually gets to visit more than one room. The girls have been entertaining her quite a bit. It's so nice to have my family whole again, if but for a short time.

  7. Hi Lucas Family!!!
My name is Lorna Blue. My sons are Elijah (4) and Hayden (2) and my husband is Ken. We are the people that put up the crazy amount of "christmas lights" each Christmas (across from the school). We have also had the pleasure of playing together at the play ground. We are so shocked and saddened to hear of Georgia's illness. I wish I new about it before today so that we could have provided some support and prayers earlier and have attended Georgia's birthday party. Regardless we will be praying for Georgia and Kristen, Mike, Calla and Maya immediately. For anyone else that is reading this, the Lucas family touched our hearts one Christmas when they thanked us for the Christmas display by putting a picture of their family standing in front of our home in our mailbox. Some of our Christmas lights are still up but aren't turned on. We will turn them on every night now to hopefully brighten your evenings during this difficult time. We will also be donating a whole slew of Elijah and Hayden's toys to the Children's Hospital. We would also like take Maya and Calla to the park or play outside your home (if you prefer) as a break for Kristen and Mike. We respect and admire your decision to explain to Maya and Calla that Georgia is an angel. She really is an angel!!!! (I would offer meals, but I'm a terrible cook!). If they is anything else we can do for you, please let us know!!! God bless you.
