Welcome to Georgia's Journey

Georgia Lily Lucas was born at home on October 6th, 2008 4:15am, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) on April 1, 2009.

On April 3rd Georgia was taken home, to be near her sisters and the rest of her family and friends. Nearly three weeks later, on April 21, 2009, she died peacefully -- in the loving arms of her mother and in the same room in which she was born.

Balloons

Glen captured these pictures of the balloon release from Georgia's funeral last Monday. (he actually created this draft post the same day ... shame on me for not releasing it sooner!)

Getting ready ...

And away they go !

A legion of angels !

One last balloon hung around in a tree ... Funny story, there were actually three hanging around (purple, yellow/white, and pink). While they were all still there, Kristen's aunt turned to her and said, "Watch, I bet the other two will go and the pink one will stay just a little longer." And it did.

Thank you to everyone who took part and especially to all those who brought their children on Monday. We realize the funeral was not an easy thing to attend let alone to bring kids, but the presence of little ones lifted our spirits and made the day a lot more bearable.

  1. It was an honour to be able to bring the kids, share in a day that was harder than any other for you and to be able to support you.

Thank-you for the pictures..a silent but STRONG reminder of how much you all mean to us.

  2. Kristen and Mike,

The balloon release was very special to the kids as well. It gave my daughter something to talk about when she is thinking about Georgia- now she can say that she sees Georgia playing up in the sky with the balloons. She now talks about sending more balloons every once in a while to make sure Georgia has toys in heaven.

  4. I saw a balloon today and thought once again of your daughter. I hugged my boys extra tight at bedtime.

    Georgia, Georgia,
    The whole day through
    Just an old sweet song
    Keeps Georgia on my mind

    I'm say Georgia
    Georgia
    A song of you
    Comes as sweet and clear
    As moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
    Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

    I said Georgia,
Ooh Georgia, no peace I find
    Just an old sweet song
    Keeps Georgia on my mind

Other arms reach out to me
    Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

    Georgia,
    Georgia,
No peace, no peace I find
    Just this old, sweet song
    Keeps Georgia on my mind

I said just an old sweet song,
    Keeps Georgia on my mind
